Benefits of Vitamin D Supplementation on Soccer Players
Research that demonstrates consequences related to the current worldwide deficiency of vitamin D among athlete performance are limited. Literature examining sufficient level of vitamin D benefits on the human body do not give clear results about its results on performance. The goal of this review is to determine the effects of vitamin D supplementation among soccer players, examining their physical performance and recovery process. A review was completed on existing research searching specific terms while including and excluding certain factors. It is demonstrated that sufficient level of vitamin D directly affects the ability for soccer players to generate muscle force, increase respiratory response, maintain bone health, and improve recovery time. Vitamin D supplementation in soccer players suffering from a deficiency should be used as an ergogenic way to achieve maximal performance.

Optimized Nutrition and Supplementation for Competitive Middle-Distance Runners
Objective: Analyze optimum nutrition for elite and sub elite middle-distance runners performing in events from 800 meters to 3 kilometers. As well as nutrition, legal ergogenic aids are also reviewed for safety and efficiency. Methods: A literature review using a search of macronutrient information and select ergogenic aids. Results: In this literature review, high carbohydrate diets with moderate amounts of fats and proteins are recommended for meeting athletes nutritional needs. For ergogenic aids, sodium bicarbonate, caffeine, and capsaicin are safe and apparently effective at lower levels of fitness. Hydration also plays a key role in performance, and dehydration can play a more negative role than any positive role an aid can. One common aid that has no endurance performance effect is sodium phosphate. It should be noted that some of the listed ergogenic aids do not have quality research on higher level endurance athletes. Keywords: nutrition, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, hydration, minerals, vitamins, sodium bicarbonate, caffeine, capsaicin, sodium phosphate, performance, middle-distance, endurance

There is some availability of literature on the properties of anti-inflammatory foods and implementation of foods to reduce muscle damage in diet, but not comparing multiple foods. This review examines research from different foods. The review also compares multiple studies done on specific foods, directly examining and comparing efficacy regarding anti-inflammatory properties and pain reduction, following exercise induced muscle damage. A review was performed using key word searches such as “exercise induced muscle damage,” which supported the narrowing down of results. Dark fruits, including cherries, pomegranates, blue berries, as well as omega-3’s, and fish oils, were the main foods found from these search results. These foods all show promising implications in the reduction of muscle soreness and inflammation following exercise induced muscle damage, suggesting their ability to act as another clinical modality.

The purpose of this paper is to recognize and discover the prevalence of male athletes with eating disorders and disordered eating. Research on this topic was extremely hard to find because the topic is so under-discussed. It is important that male athletes feel supported and able to share their experiences with the world and fellow athletes. Studies have shared graphs, percentages, and the use of real, elite athletes to determine if they are aware of the symptoms of an eating disorder. Future research is the biggest factor in this topic. Every day there is a new diet or unhealthy way to better body figure. Today’s world allows so much pressure to be extracted onto athletes based on their body build and how they should look for their sport. Studies found that males are very well able to develop an eating disorder and that it isn’t uncommon or less important than it is in female athletes. Research is still being done to find how male athletes develop eating disorders and how they can be recognized at an early stage.

What Factors Affect MLB Starting Pitcher Salaries?
This project explored the specific stats that impact the amount of money MLB starting pitchers earn in free agency. The variables tested were taken from the season before the contract was signed. ERA, wins, K/9, BB/9, IP, WHIP, HR/9, and career ERA were all examined. After running regression analysis, it was determined that 4 of the 9 variables were significant at a 95% confidence level, and that 83% of the variation in salary can be determined by the data.

How Data can be used to Evaluate a Baseball Player's Performance
Baseball is a sport that is very popular amongst American sports fans and is often referred to as “America’s favorite pastime.” In the game of baseball, players are valued based on how well they can hit and field the ball, and many different statistical categories have been invented to determine how effective they are in doing so. The goal of this project is to find a way to use those statistics to determine the value of any given player. It will use R to create a model that will be able to predict a player’s ability based on their previous stats, age, and how well similar players have performed in the past.

Oral Presentation
In a society driven by consumption it is wise to be informed on the products you are purchasing. As the topic of climate change becomes more serious and as the world develops through innovation, science, and technology the demand for environmentally friendly products and services increases. People look to buy more sustainable alternatives when doing their shopping and try their best to live a green lifestyle. Of course, brands have noticed this trend and have worked to capitalize on it. Greenwashing is a phenomenon that many corporations have participated in to gain customers who value environmental products and services. Greenwashing is a marketing ploy brands use to mislead consumers into thinking their products and services are more sustainable than they actually are. This presentation goes into detail on examples of greenwashing, how to spot greenwashing, and how to avoid it.

Microbial Biodiversity and Abundance Changes Due to COVID-19
Microbes can live on inanimate objects. Anytime humans come in contact with an inanimate object, the microbial diversity and abundance can change. Inanimate objects carry both healthy and unhealthy microbes, therefore, inanimate objects qualify as fomites. Fomites are objects or materials likely to carry unhealthy microbes. When humans accidentally transfer unhealthy and infectious microbes to inanimate objects, there is a potential increase in infectious disease spread. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the cleaning practices of inanimate objects. The purpose of the study is to determine if changes in cleaning practices due to the pandemic will affect the microbial biodiversity and abundance of inanimate surfaces. From previous research done, surfaces selected were divided into personal and public surfaces. Personal surfaces consisted of cellphones and computer keyboards. Public surfaces consisted of doorknobs and light switches. Microbial biodiversity and abundance of the inanimate objects was achieved by swabbing an area of the respective surface, extracting the DNA, and sending them out for sequencing. QIIME and NCBI were the programs used to compare microbiome sequences and determine the taxonomy of the microbes present on the public and private surfaces. More bacteria was found on public surfaces than personal surfaces, perhaps due to consistent disinfection of personal items.

North American Migratory Birds Choose Stopover Sites Based on Availability of Food, Water, & Shelter
Migratory birds require multiple stopover sites to refuel during migration, but it still remains unknown how they choose certain sites over others. The hypothesis suggests that it is the quality of these sites which attracts birds i.e. adequate food, water, and shelter. Two lakeside locations in Decatur County, Iowa were chosen to observe. Birds were manually surveyed through a fall and spring migration, and the number of individual birds and individual bird species was recorded. Bird sighting data in Decatur County from eBird since 1970 and bird counts from Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources were collected to gather the number of migratory birds in Decatur County and information about other lakeside locations throughout Iowa. Results suggest that lakeside locations surrounded with vegetation are a popular stopover site choice due to them meeting the needs of the migratory birds i.e. adequate food, water, and shelter.

Posterior and Anterior Regions of Brown Planarians Regenerate at the Same Rate Under Laboratory Conditions
The mechanism of regeneration of stem cells in humans is still yet not understood in scientific research. Neoblasts are the population of all adult dividing cells in planarians. Planarian regeneration plays a key role in understanding how stem cells and neoblasts can regrow when damaged or lost. Here in this study, regeneration of lost organs were attempted through mechanisms of single amputation to the posterior and anterior regions of the planarians. After amputation, data was collected over six days for thirty days by the process of examining under the microscope. In addition, dependent variables that included environmental factors such as pH, temperature levels, and light exposure were all factors in the regeneration process. Growth of new adult stem cells were successful with these laboratory techniques and factors.

Tea Tree Oil (TTO) Can Treat Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria
Staphylococcus aureus is a common infection acquired in hospitals and in the community. S. aureus, Erythromycin resistant S. aureus (ERSA) as well as Salmonella enterica, Ampicillin resistant S. enterica (ARSE) were treated with tea tree oil to determine if tea tree oil is an effective treatment against antibiotic strains of some possible gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Initial effectiveness of treatment was determined using a zone of inhibition assay. The minimum inhibitory concentration was determined using Mueller Hinton agar plate treated with various concentrations of tea tree oil. The average zones of inhibition for ERSA was 17.33 mm and for ARSE 23.33 mm.

Social Interaction Theory and Differences Experienced by Minority Social Identities in Leadership Positions
In this research, through theory analysis, connections are created between types of power studied and the bases of power that exist in all forms of leadership and authority. The main argument produced was that different social identities will experience different outcomes of compliance (“have to”) or acceptance (“want to”) when it comes to interacting with different styles of leadership. It began with a review of the different types of leaders that have been established and continued to explanations on each base of power according to five discerned categories: reward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and expert. The presented case studies pertained to analyzing power dynamics among people and allowed for real-world examples to be plausibly applied to the theories of social interaction discussed prior. Following were the connections drawn from combining the first two topics of leadership type and bases of power and further discussion on the factors that could lead to developing effective leadership. Next, the differences experienced by members of minority social identities were examined, whether compliance and acceptance were observed and produced differently through influence outcomes, and how they were affected by power dynamics. Lastly, it concluded with a summarization of the main points of theory and final arguments for the importance of diversity within positions of power in general and business specifically.

Some Numbers Behind College Basketball
This project will include data analysis of information collected from the 2019-2020 NCAA basketball season. This project includes a linear regression about the attendance of a team’s first home game. Some of the factors being used to determine attendance are the team's average score, if they are in a power five conference, if they were rated in the preseason top 25, the population, and the arena size. This project also includes some machine learning and will feature a classifier that will predict whether a team would win their first home game. The classifier uses some variables such as the team's score in the game, their average score, the percentage of the arena that is filled, and additional variables related to the team they are playing. This project’s goal is to illustrate the relationship between the selected variables and winning and then will show what affects those variables. An example examined in this project is how the percentage of the arena filled affects winning, and then it will show what things affect the attendance amount.

The Effect of Redlining on Economic Development in Kansas City
In the 1930s, the City of Kansas City, Missouri was involved in the discriminatory practice of redlining, a political and economic form of segregation. Though segregation was outlawed in 1964, the strong barriers created by redlining cause severe economic damage to Black communities to this day. Using U.S. Census Bureau data, we will be able to put quantitative value behind what is visible in person. The economic gap within Kansas City is easily visible along Troost Avenue, the redline that has lasted nearly 100 years.
